In 2015, the UK as part of the United Nations, formally adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In its broadest terms it provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.
At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Two of the seventeen SDGs have a direct impact on the Building Service Industry. We, as a country, have committed to “build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation” and to “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” by 2030. In order for us to achieve this every organisation in the sector needs will need to play a role.
At Extentia Group we want to make sure we connect what we do to the contribution we make to the world. We operate in an age of transparency where it is no longer acceptable for a business to just articulate how they have the capabilities to deliver a product or service. All our key stakeholders want to know who we are and why we exist beyond making a profit. We need to actively demonstrate how we are a responsible, ethical and sustainable business that works with all stakeholders to share their core values and help them to achieve their goals.
Our Purpose: “Creating Environments for People to Prosper”
We have a clear purpose which shapes the way our business is designed and run. It is a purpose that is personal to everyone who works here at Extentia Group as we rely on each other to deliver against our purpose – not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because we all believe in it.
Our Responsible Business Programme is structured around bringing our purpose to life. Everyone at Extentia Group understands that everything we produce and consume has a land footprint and the decisions we make on a daily basis have the ability to transform the world. Our Responsible Business Programme is structured around three corporate commitments that help drive our purpose:
Prioritising our People
“We will promote a diverse and inclusive culture that encourages positive behaviours and participation in skills and training for the workplace by ensuring people are safe, well and thriving.”
Protecting our Planet
“To embed a culture of environmental responsibility throughout our workforces and workspaces by reducing waste, sourcing responsibly and minimising our carbon emissions.”
Transforming our Communities
“To promote prosperity in the communities we work and live in and to empower our people and value chain to contribute their time, skills, passions and expertise to improve communities.”
To help us achieve our three commitments we will utilise positive relationships and partnerships to grow our business with integrity and build a legacy for tomorrow. In conclusion, across Extentia Group we are working hard to helping make the 2030 aspiration an achievable goal.
